Woman hit by car near FW Transit Center dies

A 59-year-old woman who was walking in the street died after being hit by a car in Federal Way.

According to the Federal Way Police Department (FWPD), at approximately 7:19 a.m. April 4 in the 2200 block of South 320th Street, near the Federal Way Transit Center, a 59-year-old woman was heading south to north, not in a crosswalk, and she was hit by a car heading eastbound. According to the FWPD, the woman suffered major head trauma and was transported to Harborview Medical Center by Medic One.

“The King County Medical Examiner called the next day and advised the pedestrian passed away early morning of April 5,” the FWPD reported.

According to the King County Medical Examiner’s Office, the woman who died was Yanxia Zhang, the cause of death was multiple blunt force injuries, and the manner of death was an accident. According to the FWPD, she was a citizen of Federal Way.

The driver, who was in a Subaru Outback, stopped at the scene of the collision and attempted to help. The FWPD stated that the Subaru driver will not face any charges.

According to a GoFundMe for Zhang, her family was left heartbroken by her death and is facing challenges they never imagined. The GoFundMe description written by Zhang’s daughter states that her father is unable to work, but that her mother, Zhang, worked tirelessly for her family and was on her way to work on the day of the incident.

“To her coworkers, she was lively, cheerful, and always willing to help others,” the GoFundMe states. “She brought warmth and kindness to everyone around her, and her absence is felt deeply by all who knew her.”

The GoFundMe states that the funds raised will cover expenses associated with Zhang’s funeral and other end-of-life arrangements. If any funds remain, they will be used to ease the financial burden on Zhang’s family, including essential living costs such as the mortgage, according to the GoFundMe.
