Arts center proposal: What are they smoking? | Letters

Reading the Feb. 22 Mirror about the performing arts and conference center (PACC) got me thinking.

This was in the planning since we became a city, which we voted in November 1989, and became official in February 1990. And if I remember correctly, the economy was doing fine at that time.

Now the economy is in the tank and getting lower every day.

But oh, we need a PACC.

People are losing, or have lost their homes, jobs, and the ability to provide for their children.

Now we have a group that just has to have a PACC.

Also mentioned was McIntyre Hall in Mount Vernon and the Edmonds arts center.

There was nothing about what shows were showing closer to home. Just a vague mention about not being able to get on the schedule.

At the Feb. 11 City Council meeting, there was a flier showing what was on the agenda at the Edmonds arts center but from nowhere else.

A signature structure in downtown? Identifying attraction for residents and tourists?

They just made (marijuana) legal. Methinks somebody has been hitting it too hard.

Like I said at the council meeting, if it is built at that location the city will be the laughing stock from Blaine to Vancouver.

We don’t need a PACC. Not at this time. I for one do not want my property taxes raised to support something this frivolous.
