Federal Way Farmers Market: Open 9 a.m. 3 p.m. Saturdays through October at The Commons mall in Federal Way in the south parking lot along South 324th Street and Pacific Highway.

Kids Clothing Swap: Come and discover a variety of new-to-you clothing items for free while you take the time to clean out those outgrown sizes and prepare for the upcoming school year from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Aug. 30. This swap is a chance to refresh your children’s wardrobes as well as a way to promote sustainability by giving clothes a second life. This event will take place at the South King Tool Library, located at 1700 S. 340th Place in Federal Way.

City Council: 6:30 p.m. Sept. 2 in the council chambers (upstairs and to the left) at City Hall, located at 33325 8th Ave. S.

Community Resource Fair: From 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Sept. 5, head to the Family Life Center located at 32275 32nd Ave. S. in Federal Way to access community resources including free clothes, cellphones, youth support and programs, employment information and job resources and more (some programs dependent on eligibility and supply). This event is hosted by Building Beyond Communities, Lori’s Closet, King County Public Health and the Black Equality Coalition.

Back to School Block Party: Join hosts Game of Life Mentoring and Phenomenal She for this annual event from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sept. 6 at the Federal Way Memorial Field, located at 1300 S. 308th St. in Federal Way. The event will feature food vendors, backpack giveaways, resource fairs, speakers, free haircuts and performances.

Federal Way’s Got Talent Finale: The annual Federal Way’s Got Talent event has just a few more opportunities for tryouts, then the contest finale will take place from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. Sept. 6 at the Federal Way Farmers Market, located at the Commons mall in Federal Way in the south parking lot along South 324th Street and Pacific Highway.

Hot off the Presses: The Federal Way Mirror invites you to join the paper from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. Sept. 9 at Poverty Bay Café for informal conversation, coffee, beer, wine and appetizers. You’ll be able to ask the newspaper staff about their work or talk about issues affecting the region, such as homelessness, addiction and development, all while supporting a local business and the work of nonprofit FUSION to serve families in need. Poverty Bay Café is located at 1108 S. 322nd Place in Federal Way, north of Celebration Park.

RAINfest: A family-friendly community event will bring fun and learning together in support of a healthy environment from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sept. 14 at Steel Lake Park, located at 2410 S. 312th St. in Federal Way. The interactive event will feature local environmental organizations, expert workshops on sustainability and water pollution prevention and a concessions voucher upon completion of educational activities. This event is geared toward adults and kids alike who want to learn more about how to make their community more sustainable.

Free CERT Basic Course: The Greater Federal Way Community Emergency Response Team will host its Spring CERT Basic Course Thursday evenings from 6 to 8:30 p.m. from Sept. 17 through Nov. 12. CERT teaches residents disaster preparedness and planning, first aid, use of fire extinguishers, and search and rescue. Training is free. Confidence in the Community – free haircuts: Building Beyond Communities is partnering with Paul Mitchell the School in Federal Way to offer 20 free haircuts to community members starting at 3:30 p.m. Sept. 22. Financial Literacy Classes: The City of Federal Way is partnering with community volunteers and the Dave Ramsey Financial Peace University to offer the Bob Towne Financial Literacy Program, a free nine-week course teaching financial skills for Federal Way residents. The classes will be held every Thursday from Sept. 25 through Nov. 20 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Federal Way Community Center. The class is limited to 40 participants. Free child care is available for class participants on a first-come, first-served basis.

Taste of Federal Way: Try tasty bites from local favorites and support a local nonprofit at the annual event from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Sept. 27 at the Commons Mall.
