Details of the killing
According to FWPD Deputy Chief Casey Jones, officers responded to a report of a shooting at 7:30 a.m. Aug. 18 at The Shores Apartments, 31821 Third Place SW. Jones said that officers discovered a 43-year-old man who had suffered a gunshot wound to the chest. Officers and fire personnel initiated life-saving efforts, but the man was pronounced dead at the scene.
“Initial investigation indicates that the suspect, who fled the scene on foot, was known to the apartment’s occupants,” Jones said. “A K-9 track was initiated, but was unsuccessful in locating the suspect.”
Jones said that officers were still processing the scene, so he did not have any definitive answers on what happened inside the apartment or outside. He said the shooting was not random, and there was no known danger to the public.
This is Federal Way’s eighth homicide of 2025. In 2024, there were five homicides reported in Federal Way.
