I could only shake my head as I read a ridiculous letter in The Mirror today (Oct. 16), attempting to tie Jim Ferrell to a failed sand castle event. Factual errors were flying as letter writer Matthew Jarvis tried to insert both the police budget issue and a claim that Skip Priest would have made some other choice. Where do I begin? How about some real facts?
Fact: The money spent on that event was not in the fund that could have been used for the police budget.
Fact: The event actually got a lot of great press, including coverage from King 5, the Today Show, Evening Magazine, CNN, and the front page of the Seattle Times.
If anything, Ferrell showed that he will take a chance if there is a possibility of showcasing Federal Way as a destination. Funny that the letter writer forgot about the purpose of the event. But typical as we see yet another attempt to twist the facts. Smoke and mirrors is the only way Skip Priest is going to win.
