The Kiwanis Club of Federal Way and the Federal Way Community Center’s inclusion program partnered to form the Aktion Club of Federal Way, a service club for people with disabilities.

The official charter for the Aktion Club of Federal Way was presented at the city council’s regular meeting on July 19 by Kiwanis International President Sylvester Neal to Aktion Club President Patricia Reca. Also present were John Hutton of the Community Center, Community Center Aktion Club Advisor Sara Montgomery, Kiwanis Division 32 Lt. Gov. Jim Nannery, Kiwanis Pacific Northwest District Aktion Club Chair Lee Chic, Kiwanis Club of Federal Way President Jim Knapp, Kiwanis Foundation of Federal Way President Jim Burbidge, Aktion Club founder and Kiwanis Advisor Judge Dave Larson, and numerous members of the Kiwanis Club of Federal Way.

The Kiwanis Club of Federal Way has been serving the community since 1955 and also sponsors Key Clubs at Federal Way High School, Decatur High School and Todd Beamer High School. Judge Dave Larson, also a member of Kiwanis, works out at the community center and noticed a group of folks that met regularly at the community center that may be interested in forming an Aktion Club. He inquired whether there was any interest in forming an Aktion Club and there was overwhelming support from the prospective members, the Community Center and the Kiwanis Board. Funding for the formation of the Aktion Club of Federal Way was provided by the Kiwanis Foundation of Federal Way.
