Lawmaker helps solve medical issue: Federal Way letter to the editor

In 2006, our adult daughter, due to some major health issues, became eligible for and required the financial assistance from Washington’s state health insurance program. However, for 16 months, the medical bills were not being paid by the state due to multiple snafus in the system, and we seemed powerless to resolve the situation.

Skip Priest, our state representative, was recently visiting his constituents in our neighborhood. Great guy — we voted for him and enjoy getting the chance to talk to him each time he visits our street. I asked the simple question of “Who do we call to get help in resolving this problem?”

To my great surprise he said to send him the details. What a blessing to have Skip, and assistant Steve, on our side.

Within four business days, our daughter was notified of complete coverage including retroactive reimbursement to the doctors and facilities that continued (and will continue) to care for her.

We can not adequately express our gratitude for Skip and Steve’s successful efforts on our daughter’s behalf, but we will offer thanks in the voting booth the next election. Thank you, both, for residing in the “good guys” category.
