Barbara I. Stellfox | Obituary

November 9, 1928 – October 28, 2021

Barbara I. Stellfox, a longtime resident of Federal Way, has gone to be with her Lord. She will join her family who were patiently waiting for her. She was born in Tacoma, WA on November 9, 1928, to Mable (Smelcer) and Kermit Bernard. She grew up on the “Tide Flats” on Marine View Drive. In 1944 she met her future husband Aviation Seaman Oliver Stellfox at the 5 and Dime where she worked as a check out girl. After the war, they were married in 1948 and started their family in 1951, in Federal Way.

Barbara was a founding member of Twin Lakes Golf and Country Club, in addition to golf, she bowled, and coordinated Crystal Mountain ski busses. But her joy was salmon fishing with Ollie on their 25-foot Bayliner.

In 1986, Barbara and Ollie retired to a home they built on Harstine Island where they could live off the beach eating crab and clams, and of course fish for salmon.

Ollie passed away in 2007 and Barbara tried to stay on her island but as time marched on it became too hard to manage alone, so she moved back to Federal Way.

Barbara is survived by her sons Rick (Kathy) Stellfox of Vancouver, WA, Steve Stellfox of Tacoma, WA, her lifelong best friend Wanda Jo Gleason, seven grandchildren, ten great grandchildren, and numerous cousins.

Barbara was proceeded in death by her husband of 59 years Ollie, her parents, brother Richard Bernard, infant brother Jack, and cousin Bob Gleason.

As per her request no services will be held.
