Brookdale nurse placed on leave after oxycodone pill goes missing | Police blotter

The medication was noted as administered, however the patient was not present to receive the pill at the time.

June 24

Tree theft: At about 11:49 a.m. near the 32600 block of 3rd Place South, a woman reported her potted Japanese maple tree was stolen from the driveway area of her residence. The tree is estimated to be worth $150. The case is inactive as there is no suspect information or further leads at this time.

Meth pipe and misdemeanor warrants: At about 2:22 p.m. near the 32700 block of 35th Avenue Southwest, officers pulled over a vehicle that failed to signal before making a left turn. One of the officers saw drug paraphernalia on the driver’s side of the vehicle in the center console where the driver was seated. There were no other occupants in the vehicle. The drug paraphernalia was a glass pipe with dark residue that is commonly used to smoke meth. The driver was found to have three misdemeanor warrants for his arrest out of Federal Way. The driver was transported and booked into King County Jail for his warrants. The car was impounded.

Assault at the 76: At about 2 p.m. near the 2535 block of South 320th Street, the store manager of the 76 gas station location got into a verbal argument with a customer due to the customer’s second-hand purchasing of tobacco for her friend. The manager told the girl to leave, but she did not and instead attempted to buy a soda from a machine in the store. The manager attempted to intervene and the customer began punching the manager multiple times, causing bruises and scrapes. The customer then fled the scene in a vehicle.

Ride and warrant: At about 8:55 p.m. near the 32400 block of Pacific Highway South, an officer observed a man standing near the roadway flailing his arms and walking near traffic. The officer stopped to check on the man. The man was intoxicated and asked for a ride to S. 272nd Street. The officer agreed and asked for the man to identify himself by providing his name. The man said his name, and a records check revealed the man had an outstanding King County Sheriff’s Office felony warrant for failure to register as a sex offender with a bail of $60,000. The man was arrested and booked into King County Jail.

June 25

ALPR alert: At about 4:11 a.m. near the 31900 block of 3rd Place Southwest, an officer was driving through The Shores apartments when the patrol car’s Automated License Plate Reader alerted to a stolen vehicle. Dispatch confirmed the vehicle was stolen out of Tacoma. The registered owner was contacted and the vehicle was released to him.

Missing oxycodone pill: At about 8:14 a.m. near the 31002 block of 14th Avenue South, a person called to report that the day before, a single 10mg oxycodone pill was listed as administered to a patient at the Brookdale Federal Way senior living facility. The reporting party later discovered that the patient was in the hospital at the time and was not present to receive the pill as administered. The reporting party asked the nurse who had listed the pill as administered and the nurse said that because the patient was not at the facility, she had placed the pill in a container to be destroyed. However, the reporting party said she was unable to find the single pill. There were no witnesses and no video surveillance to prove the nurse had stolen the single pill. The nurse in question was subsequently placed on administrative leave. Case is inactive due to no further witness or suspect information.

June 27

Counterfeit change at Rite Aid: At about 1:55 p.m. near the 35419 block of 21st Avenue Southwest, a man purchased items at Rite Aid with a $100 bill. Unknown to the man, he received four counterfeit $20 bills as change. The man took these bills to Ace Hardware and the manager found out the bills were fake. Officers returned to Rite Aid with the man and spoke with the manager. The manager looked up the receipt and tracked down the register which the fraudulent money was from, and then found another fraudulent $50 in the cash register. The manager did not know where the fraudulent bills had come from. The man was given real money back and the fraudulent bills were turned over to the bank. The investigation is closed due to no further suspect information.

Rocks at the gym: At about 8 p.m. near the 35009 block of Enchanted Parkway South, officers arrested a suspect who picked up rocks and threw them at the windows of the LA Fitness gym, causing significant damage. The suspect was booked into jail.

June 28

Assault rifle robbery: At about 11:05 p.m. near the 1900 block of Southwest 320th Street, a victim was robbed by two men. One of the men was armed with an assault type rifle. The suspects were not located. The investigation is active.

June 29

Stealing donations: At about 5:40 a.m. near the 31325 block of Pacific Highway South, officers responded to reports of a man and a woman attempting to pry open a clothing donation box in the parking lot near the Barnes & Noble. The reporting party said the man and woman were able to gain access to one of the donation boxes. The two fled the scene as the reporting party approached them. Case is inactive.

Drive-by hit: At about 5:58 p.m. near the 4400 block of Southwest 320th Street, a woman reported the passenger side door of her Jeep was struck by a rock as she was driving. The woman said she saw three boys standing near the roadway when her vehicle was hit. An area check was conducted to find the boys, but they were not located. The damage to her Jeep is estimated to be under $1,000.
