Dovey knows about jobs and small business | Letter

I will be voting for Jack Dovey.
If that slanderous attack mailer I received recently was meant to discourage me from voting for Jack Dovey, it has done the exact opposite. Full of oh-so-scary looking case numbers, it was vile and intentionally misleading. What did I do? I called Jack Dovey.
The straight answers I got made my blood boil about the sleazy tactics in politics. The hit piece was printed to look as though the information was against him personally. But it wasn’t. When a business fails, the partners may have debt that needs to be settled. Jack Dovey paid everything and never walked away from a debt. Just because something has a filing number, does NOT means there is a lawsuit. His opponent is hoping you are ignorant.
It is time for us to have someone in Olympia who is a small business owner and has personally experienced some of the pitfalls of starting and running a business. Do you know that 60 percent of our economy is produced by small business? Do you know that individuals risk everything for the chance of their American Dream?
They pour in their savings, risk their credit in loans, work 16 hour days, employ others and within two years, 50 percent of these small businesses fail! The risk-takers in our community deserve our thanks for their awesome stamina and guts.
In Washington state, the climate for business is terrible. Constant red tape, regulations, hoops to jump through, new tax laws, changing employee laws, changes in health care laws, B&O, L&I, IRS demands, is extremely time consuming and complicated. It’s a wonder people have the strength to keep trying to succeed. Jack Dovey is one such person who will never give up on working and succeeding for his family, and for us.
I have been an accountant in a tax business in our community for 35 years. I have worked with businessmen and women who are very good at their work. Some of these people are the best. They have no idea about all the laws, regulations and codes they must abide by. They are honest and hard working. It is clear to me that we need even more small business.
Roger Freeman has spent his life working as a public defender, or in law making. He has no experience in what it takes to start, own and operate a business. He doesn’t know the plights of a business owner who employs 30th District residents.
Remember, many of our neighbors are unemployed. We have an opportunity to send a powerful and experienced, job creator voice to Olympia.
I strongly urge voters in the 30th District to vote for Jack Dovey on Nov. 4.
