Federal Way swimmers hope to make splash at state

Seven high school swimmers from three different Federal Way high schools will be representing their schools at the 4A state girls swimming championships this weekend.

The tournament begins with preliminary races at 2 p.m. Friday at the Weyerhaeuser King County Aquatic Center, 650 SW Campus Drive, Federal Way. Swimmers who qualify in the preliminary heats will then advance to Saturday’s finals, which begin at 2:20 p.m.

Decatur freshman Kimberly Walling will be swimming in two individual events: the 200-yard individual medley (qualifying time — 2 minutes, 18.81 seconds, ranked 25th out of 25 swimmers) and the 100 butterfly (1:01.50, 22/24).

Federal Way High School sophomore Breanna Ross will compete alongside Walling in the 100 butterfly (1:01.60, 23/24).

Senior Amy Nguyen will represent Thomas Jefferson in the 50-yard freestyle (25.77, 23/24).

Federal Way High freshman Sarah Jacobson will compete in the 100-yard backstroke (1:01.52, 17/24).

Decatur freshman Lilly Tucker will compete in the 100 breaststroke (1:07.69, 7/24).

The Decatur 400 free relay team of Lilly Tucker, Evie Tucker, Krailyn Guymon and Walling will also compete after qualifying with a time of 3:57.40, which ranks them 24th in a field of 24 teams.
