An apartment building in Federal Way was struck by lightning on Friday.

South King Fire and Rescue responded at 2 p.m. to the Greystone Meadows Apartments, located at 31500 First Ave. S.

According to Capt. Jeff Bellinghausen, the damage left a small hole inside an apartment wall.

“The strike hit the building, traveled down a stud inside the wall, entered a closet and exited at the base of the wall inside the apartment,” he said, adding that the residents will most likely be able to stay in their home.

No one was injured, but the apartment was filled with smoke when firefighters arrived. The occupants were evacuated and maintenance crews are currently working on repairs. Puget Sound Energy will also respond, Bellinghausen said.

It is unknown what the estimated cost of damage is at this time.
