VPC and new blood in town| Q&A with Mr. Federal Way

Q: Mr. Federal Way, where do you stand on the Violence Prevention Coalition steering committee’s 10 recommendations for preventing youth violence?

A: For starters, Mr. Federal Way thinks the name of these fine folks is ridiculous. Come on. Honestly, all heroic people or groups, fictional or non-fictional, have names the community they serve can swallow and get on board with. For example …Batman — a personal favorite and personal friend to Mr. Federal Way. It’s just Batman. Boom. Quick. Simple. A household name to his people. It’s not “Batman of Gotham City Protecting The Small and Disenfranchised.” Batman. Anyway, the recommendations are fantastic, and the people on the VPC all have that inner-hero in them and want the best for this city. Mr. Federal Way particularly likes the ideas for youth job training. It made a world of difference in Mr. Federal Way’s life. More after-school programs is also a big one. Find passions that lie deep within these troubled kids and get them involved in whatever it is, such as late-night sports. Crime is an all-hours business, and it’s not going anywhere. But talking to kids and getting them interested in something early on in their lives can be all the steering they need. The VPC has recognized this, and their recommendations are spot on.

Q: Mr. Federal Way, what do you think about Jesse Johnson challenging Bob Celski’s seat on the Federal Way City Council?

Perhaps Mr. Johnson could answer the challenge of keeping Mr. Federal Way awake when making the occasional Tuesday night appearance. Mr. Federal Way’s tossed the idea around for a while. Maybe what the city needs is a young whippersnapper like Johnson. It’s Mr. Federal Way’s position that, at times, this council has a bit of a … transparency problem. Mr. Federal Way would like to see someone on the council who communicates for a living, and Johnson’s got that experience. He sounds like he’s full of passion and would hold a position on the council with such passion. Mr. Federal Way hasn’t seen this in Bolting Bob for quite some time. More often than not, new blood in an otherwise stale situation has the potential to turn out great. Maybe what this council and city needs is the new ideals from a younger hometown kid. Good luck Mr. Johnson. Mr. Federal Way’s got his eyes on you.

Q: Mr. Federal Way, do you live in northern Federal Way or south Federal Way?

A: None of your business.
