Panther Lake student hit by car, condition critical

A third-grader from Panther Lake Elementary (34424 1st Ave. S., Federal Way) was airlifted to Harborview Medical Center after being hit by a car at 8:23 Thursday morning.

The collision occurred on 1st Avenue South near the King County Library. The student, age 9, was heading to school and in a marked crosswalk, its lights flashing, when he was hit by a car heading north.

The 28-year-old female driver told police she did not see the flashing lights at the crosswalk or the child.

The boy was treated by fire personnel at the scene. He has serious injuries but is expected to survive.
