Why traffic cameras are making money | Federal Way letters

On the subject of traffic cameras, I was interested to read your recent article indicating that it was netting a whopping profit for the city of Federal Way.

I was passing by Twin Lakes Elementary School a few months back, carefully observing my speed because I knew those pesky little cameras had a bead on me. When I saw the “Resume Normal Speed” sign, I audaciously accelerated to 26 mph. But, alas, a few feet too soon for the automated camera.  A few days later I got a notice in the mail from somewhere in Arizona with a bill for $210.

No surprise the profits are rolling in!
