Vote no on Proposition 1 | Federal Way letters

Accountability Comes to Town (ACT) has said that 82 percent of Washington cities (in a 1991 study) chose the strong mayor form of government. However, when you look at the study closer, you will see 75 percent of those same cities in the study had populations of 5,000 or fewer, and are not comparable to Federal Way’s population of about 88,040.
According to the Municipal Research and Services Center of Washington’s Web site, in 2009, 56 percent of Washington cities with populations greater than 50,000 have council-manager governments. It also should be noted that since 1966, all but one of 18 cities incorporated in Washington state have chosen the council-manager form of government. Why? Because the council-manager form of city government is more effective, efficient and economical to run.
Vote “no” on Proposition 1 and keep our council-manager form of government.
