Roger Freeman is ready for Olympia | Letters

Roger Freeman is our choice to be a new leader in the Washington State Legislature, 30th District, position 2.

Roger is an experienced attorney in the Washington Public Defenders office. For nearly 20 years, mainly defending young people, he has developed a strong sense for what Washington now needs. He is ready to tackle the knotty problem of education funding as mandated by the Washington Supreme Court.  As a result, to prepare himself now to deal with that issue he has made an extensive review of what are the principle industries in Washington. The biggest single set are the Boeing parts providers. They need specific skills which are also used by other industries. The critical need is for individuals that can clearly express themselves,  make accurate calculations, and operate a wide variety of equipment, particularly automated devices. Education regarding understanding the essence of engineering, materials properties, strength of structures, and corrosion is needed. None of this is currently taught in our schools. His solution would be to get industry involved in planning this major change to meet the 21st century needs.

As an attorney, he realizes that each of us have certain basic constitutional rights. These include privacy of personal life, the legal ability to recognize our relationships in their varied forms, to keep government out of legislating in some areas, to receive help in some aspects of our lives when we are disabled or encounter serious financial hardship, guarantee our inherent rights as citizens, and provide certain essential services for the health and safety of all of us.
