The squeals of joy mixed with slight disgust of fish slime echoed early Saturday morning at the annual Hooked on Fishing event. Sponsored by the city of Federal Way Parks and Recreation and several other partners, the event was held at the Steel Lake activity center.

A netted area was stocked with Rainbow Trout just inside the swimming dock and the Puget Sound Anglers, a local fishing club, provided volunteers and tackle for kids to experience their first cast and catch. This year, over 250 pre-registered and there was room for 150 walk-ups.

“This is my first Hooked on Fishing and I’m already tweaking the plans for next year to make it more fun,” said Bo Du, cultural events and arts coordinator.
