My four major election issues | Federal Way letters

Regarding the mayor’s race, I am voting for Jim Ferrell. He has proven to me that he has the best interests of Federal Way voters at heart and I really like and support his idea of establishing a police substation at our big crime-ridden Transit Center. Jim is young and energetic and not playing the “same old tune” to voters that some of the longtime council members continue to play in order to keep their jobs.

Also, Skip Priest was one of the many that fought having an elected mayor in the beginning along with other candidates who showed up in the August primary. Why did Skip want to give up a prestigious job in the state Capitol in Olympia and abandon District 30 voters?

As for me and my family, we already have one “Priest” in our lives. We don’t need two.

Tracey Eide is running again for State Senator. I have voted for her every time. Never again! Not since she voted to override the taxation initiative percentage requirement and sock it to the voters. Also, her husband Mark Eide is running again for King County District Judge. Isn’t it possible that a District Judge and a State Senator living together in the same household is a possible conflict of interest? The heck with her. I’m voting for Tony Moore.

Judith Eiler doesn’t know when to hang up her black robe and go back to gardening. I consider her a “rogue jurist” and someone who has greatly outlived her stay on the judicial bench. She insults people, cuts off your explanations of what happened in her courtroom and is just plain damn rude. She has already been warned and sanctioned twice, yet our lawmakers in this state don’t have the guts to get rid of her once and for all. Usually she runs unopposed. This time we have a chance to dump her. She has an opponent. Hooray! Therefore, I am voting for Susan Mahoney. Her educational background also exceeds that of Judith Eiler.

My final issue is Initiative 1100 — the total privitization of alcohol. My fellow voters, Prohibition ended over 70 years ago. Federal Way is not Utah. We are not under control of the Mormon Church. It is time to open up the selling of “any type” of alcohol to any sales outlet whatsoever. But at the same time, get the Liquor Control Board off their butt and enforce the rules vigorously against any retailer who breaks the law and sells alcohol to minors. Vote yes on I-1100.
