Charmaine (Char) Louise Ashcraft
September 21, 1934- March 15, 2026
Born in Seattle 91 years ago, a resident of Federal Way for the last 60 years
Graduate of Seattle U with a Masters of Social Work. Char worked for DSHS for almost 30 years, retiring as an Area Manager. She worked in Children’s and Family Services impacting the lives of many. She was one of the ‘Founding Mothers‘ of Treehouse for Children.
Char volunteered at the Federal Way Senior Center for many years, serving as the Associate Director and utilizing her Social Worker skills to improve programs for seniors.
After losing her brother-in-law to suicide she became a board member of Auburn Survivors of Suicide and volunteered at many awareness events. She also was half of the team that for the last ten years conducted a massive gift drive for needy children in Federal Way.
After retirement Char enjoyed traveling in the RV, puzzling and gardening when she wasn’t volunteering.
She is predeceased by her son John and daughter Charae, both of cancer.
She is survived by her wife of 36 years, Catherine (married the first day they legally could!), her son Ray, a number of cousins and many in-laws.
