Federal Way High School baseball star Josh Mears has been drafted to the San Diego Padres.

Mears became the seventh player selected in the second round (48th overall) by the San Diego Padres in the opening of Major League Baseball’s first year player draft on Monday.

His slot value for being drafted at No. 48 is $1,543,600.

This was higher than where most analysts had Mears ranked. The senior finished the regular season at Federal Way with a .509 batting average and was best known as a power hitter, collecting 10 home runs this year.

Despite his large size at 6 feet 3 inches, 235 pounds, scouts had reported that defensively Mears moved around well in the outfield.

Mears committed to Purdue University prior to getting drafted.
