Despite a crushing 48-37 loss to the Union Titans that ended the Todd Beamer girls basketball postseason hopes Feb. 23, a visibly upset Makenzie Bond still described her senior season as her best.

Beamer finished atop the North Puget Sound League Olympic Division with a 14-0 record, 20-6 overall, and quieted the doubters who coach Corey Alexander said wrote off the Titans’ season before it began because they lost key players from the previous season.

But Bond measured her season, instead, by her teammates, rather than wins and losses.

“We really love each other,” she said. “I’ll miss them.”

Alexander agreed the Titans couldn’t be defined by their last game, where nerves got the best of them.

“We’ve done a great job of people stepping up this season, and we’ll do that again,” he said.

The Titans will only lose Bond and Chasity Spady, and Alexander said the remaining players will form a solid core for next year’s team.
