Decatur’s Cassaday wins 182-pound championship at Doc Herren Invite

Bloodied but not beaten, Decatur’s state-class Jacob Cassady, right, defeated Auburn Riverside’s Sam Onishchenko in the 182-pound championship at the Doc Herren Invitational at Auburn High School’s Bob Jones Gymnasium on Saturday.

Cassady, who was third at 170 pounds at state last year, won a 10-3 decision despite a stubborn bleeding scrape over his eye that required a wrap-around head bandage from trainers.

Decatur’s Quinzy Salu took home the heavyweight crown.

Behind a pair of class champions, Auburn Riverside pinned down its third tournament title of season.
