Firefighters responded to a house fire in the 2600 block of 40th Place South this morning.

Capt. Jeff Bellinghausen with South King Fire and Rescue said the fire was caused by a cigarette that ignited a plastic coffee container filled with other cigarettes. The burning material fell out onto a deck, which caught fire, and charred an exterior wall. No one was injured.

“Please discard smoking materials carefully,” Bellinghausen said.

He estimates the damage to be about $10,000.
