Blood donations needed

Bloodworks Northwest has released “an urgent appeal for donors” in response to local blood inventories dipping in the summer months.
The call said blood donations are down 25 percent this summer, leaving the highest-demand blood types at “critical levels,” meaning down to a two-or three-day supply.
“Recent tragedies underscore the fact that it is the blood already on the shelves that is essential when unforeseeable emergencies happen, so we are grateful for all donors who generously donate at times like this — when the need is acute,” Dr. James P. AuBuchon, president and CEO, said.
Specifically, there’s enhanced need for O blood type (positive and negative), platelets and AB plasma.
