Federal Way, Seattle police searching for ‘Thug in a Rug’

The Seattle Safe Streets Task Force and the Federal Way Police Department are seeking information about a bank robber nicknamed the “Thug in a Rug.”

The unidentified bank robber is believed to have robbed at least three Federal Way banks and one Seattle bank, with the spree starting in February and continuing most recently just a few weeks ago. Investigators nicknamed him “Thug in a Rug” because of the wigs worn during the robberies.

The suspect is described as a white male, 30-40 years old, between 5 feet 6 inches and 6 feet tall, with a thin/slender build. He is reported to have blue eyes (unconfirmed) and may have a deformity to his right eye. The subject is wanted for his alleged involvement in the following robberies:

• Key Bank on Pacific Highway South in Federal Way on Feb. 5

• Homestreet Bank on Pacific Highway South in Federal Way on Feb. 18

• Unibank on Pacific Highway South in Federal Way on May 24

• Homestreet Bank on 35th Avenue Northeast in Seattle on June 3

Anyone with information on the identity or whereabouts of the suspected robber(s) should not approach him/them and is urged to contact law enforcement immediately.

Those with information can also call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477). Callers to Crime Stoppers may remain anonymous and are eligible to receive a cash reward of $1,000 if the information provided leads to an arrest and charge of the person(s) involved.
