Congratulations to Cal Greatsinger: Village Green’s volunteer of the month!
Reading is Greatsinger’s favorite activity. When he was diagnosed with glaucoma, Greatsinger found using a large font on his Kindle and listening to books on tape allowed him to continue to enjoy all types of literature.
Greatsinger volunteered to reach out to others at Village Green who experience similar challenges and recently formed a visually limited support group. Residents discuss what’s happening with their particular situation and how they’ve dealt with it. Speakers bring in resources to assist and offer suggestions.
The Village Green Resident Council, impressed with Greatsinger’s organizational abilities and desire to help others, is honoring him as volunteer of the month.
Greatsinger grew up in North Dakota and received his doctorate at the University of Northern Colorado. Always an educator, Greatsinger spent the last 25 years of his career as a professor at Central Washington University in Ellensburg. As an undergraduate, he pursued his teaching credentials and learned the latest techniques on how best to teach reading to elementary students.
Greatsinger has lived at Village Green since October 2015 and decided to try every single activity at least once. His top picks include the many music programs, walking excursions and varied exercise classes.
Active on the Resident Council, Greatsinger attends monthly meetings, gets acquainted with residents and informs others with detailed announcements about current and upcoming community activities.
