Local church to focus on underserved caregiving communities

Steel Lake Presbyterian Church (1829 S 308th St, Federal Way) will launch its new mission, focusing on underserved aging and caregiving communities in the greater Federal Way area, during a special Pentecost celebration on May 15.
“Our mission is in our name,” said Pastor Will Mason. “Presbyterian means elder. It’s not just our polity, it’s our identity.”
Church leaders say a significant proportion of American society has drifted away from the tradition of caring for family members and valuing the wisdom of elders.
“How we care for our elders says everything about who we worship,” Mason said. “The whole family system is affected by the issues of aging.”
All community members are invited to attend the church’s 10 a.m. worship service on May 15. A reception will immediately follow. Dignitaries from the Presbytery of Seattle and staff from a number of Federal Way retirement communities will be present to share their perspectives.
