Democrat Kristine Reeves announced last week that she’ll run for the District 30 House of Representatives seat currently held by Republican Rep. Teri Hickel.

Reeves’ path was cleared on Sunday when Sharry Edwards, also a Democrat, announced she would exit the race and endorse Reeves.

“The race has another great candidate,” Edwards said in a statement on Sunday. “I believe that she is highly qualified, and will serve our district well.”

Reeves is the director of economic development for the Washington Department of Commerce’s military and defense sector. Her campaign announcement described her role there as “focusing on the public and private elements of economic development as it relates to infrastructure, suppliers and contractors and community advocacy and public support organizations.”

Reeves previously worked in various positions for U.S. Sen. Patty Murray. She announced Murray’s endorsement last week.

“I want to bring that problem-solving attitude and collaborative solutions experience I have gained over the past two decades to Olympia to make sure the 30th has the right voice for families,” Reeves said.

If Reeves or Hickel draw a primary challenger, the primary election will be Aug. 2. Election Day is Nov. 8.
