Students will be ‘Storming the Sound with Salmon’ in May

Published 10:00 am Sunday, May 1, 2016

The Salmon Release Celebration is the culmination of the annual Storming the Sound with Salmon program, a partnership between the City of Federal Way and Federal Way Public Schools, to promote science and environmental education – particularly stormwater education.

Over the school year, students in 26 Federal Way schools have been raising salmon and learning about the impacts of surface water pollution and what they can do to help prevent it. Now, not only will the students get to release their salmon at one of four events between May 3 and May 11, they’ll spend the entire school day at the West Hylebos Wetlands Park (411 S. 348th St.) doing hands-on outdoor learning.

Parents, as well as city and school district staff, are encouraged to attend this community event. Parking is very limited, but alternative parking is available on a residential street across from the park or a couple blocks east at the Park & Ride.
