Sex In the Suburbs needs science | Letter

Suggestion for Amy Johnson:
It would be helpful if you enlightened us on this transgender thing with some scientific background. It’s natural for many of us traditional folks to wonder where in the world this madness came from when we’ve seen so much of it come from the simple selfish business of much of the sexual revolution. You and others write of this as a clearly legitimate move toward greater inclusion and sensibility without telling us why it’s not just the confusion it appears to be. So is there science behind this, and why don’t we hear about it in the popular press? I’ve checked a little and it seems there is. So if you want more people to soften up to your non-traditional views on sex, help us see why we should.
Also, what’s this business about promoting your views in the national setting under the banner of The United Church of Christ? Why this insistence on rewriting Christian morality? If you’re forging a brave new world of liberal thinking on sexuality, have at it. But why Christianity? There’s so much you have to rewrite. Seems to me Humanism or Buddhism or sincere love-your-neighbor agnosticism would be more honest bets.
