New members for the Mirror Editorial Board | Publisher’s note
Published 4:02 pm Tuesday, March 1, 2016
In December we asked for submissions from the public to join the Mirror’s Editorial Board. This year we have two expiring seats that opened due to term limits.
Leaving the board are Karen Brugato and Patrick Godfrey.
A number of community advocates applied during the submission process. This number was narrowed to five, and these five met with the board for additional questions and comments.
In February the board selected the two new members. These members will serve two year terms beginning March 1, 2016.
The newest board members are:
Mark Piennett. Piennett lives in Federal Way and is a retired computer systems analyst for Airborne Express. His interests are studying transportation, education and following the issues at City Hall. He enjoys the performing arts and regularly attends Centerstage, the Federal Way Symphony and the Summer Sounds at Steel Lake Park.
Susan White. White lives in Redondo and recently served for eight years on the Des Moines City Council. She has served for 10 years on the board of the Federal Way Symphony and volunteers for Fusion. She has three adult daughters that all attended Federal Way schools.
The Mirror’s Editorial Board is comprised of the Mirror’s editor and publisher and five volunteer members of the community. The group chooses the tones, topics and stances of the Mirror’s editorials, engaging in debate and discussion and then presenting its opinions as a singular voice. The group meets twice a month.
If you have items of local importance to Federal Way that you would like the board to address, please send these to editorialboard@federalwaymirror.com.
