Federal Way LED bulb sale, free energy conservation workshop Nov. 12

Published 10:42 am Tuesday, November 10, 2015

Federal Way residents interested in lowering their carbon footprint (and saving on energy) are encouraged to take advantage of the city’s discounted LED bulb sale from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 12 at City Hall, 33325 Eighth Ave. S.

The city will also host a free energy conservation workshop from 6-8 p.m.

Lighting can be 20 percent of your home’s energy use. One of the easy and inexpensive ways to save energy is to switch to Energy Star-rated LED bulbs, according to city officials.

Puget Sound Energy has subsidized the cost of these energy-efficient LED light kits. Residents can purchase six LED bulbs for $10 ($75 value) or six LED can/flood lights for $20 ($90 value). Kits also include an energy efficient and water-saving shower head. Specialized LED bulbs will also be available for purchase.

The city will accept cash or credit card and will add a 9.5 percent sales tax to purchases. There’s no need to register for the bulb sale.

Energy conservation is the focus of November’s free Green Living Workshop. Puget Sound Energy will share easy low-cost and no-cost energy conservation ideas, plus information about current rebate programs for residents to take advantage of. The city will also have GoLocalSolar provide an overview of solar power, and share great ideas to keep in mind when considering solar electricity, solar hot water and solar energy storage at your home here in Federal Way.
