Arsonist leaves suspicious note by homeless camp | Federal Way Police Blotter

The following is a sample from the Federal Way police log:

Man forces woman in car, beats her: At 2:18 a.m. on Nov. 1 in the 28700 block of Military Road S., a 29-year-old woman entered a convenience store and a man approached her. The suspect made up a story and coerced the victim into his vehicle.

He pointed a gun at her and demanded that she get in. After they drove a few blocks away, the suspect beat her, resulting in obvious injuries. He stole her cell phone and $300 in cash before forcing her out. The victim called police after she returned to the convenience store, where medics treated her.

Police located the suspect’s vehicle. The video surveillance was not available at the time of this report. Police described the suspected as African American, in his 20s, 6 feet tall with a heavy build and wearing a black hoodie and black sweat pants.

Driver arrested for hit-and-run: At 1:32 a.m. on Nov. 1 in the 34800 block of Enchanted Parkway S., a driver was arrested for striking another vehicle and fleeing the scene. The suspect was arrested for the hit-and-run and for physical control.

Man in boxers found wandering on road: At 1:11 a.m. on Nov. 1 in the 32300 block of First Ave. S., two passerbys found a man walking on a road in the pouring rain wearing only boxers and a shirt. The man was by himself and had minor injuries from falling on his knees. South King Fire and Rescue personnel treated him at the scene for his skinned knees. He was also very cold. He was then transported to St. Francis Hospital for evaluation.

He appeared dazed and confused and stated he had Parkinson’s disease, for which he took heavy medication. He also said several males were chasing him. But police checked his apartment and it appeared neat and in order. A message was left for his nurse.

Teen reports man raped her: At 4:41 a.m. on Nov. 1 in an unknown block of 20th Ave. S., a 17-year-old girl reported that while staying at a relative’s house in Federal Way, a 27-year-old family friend living in the home sexually assaulted her.

Her mom picked her up from the house and drove her to Valley Medical Center in Renton. The mother called 911 to report the incident. A rape kit was accomplished and the victim provided a written statement and is willing to cooperate with prosecution. The case is still under investigation.

Business burglar cuts hole in wall to gain entry: At 12:49 p.m. on Nov. 1 in the 29100 block of Pacific Highway S., the victim’s business was burglarized. The suspect cut a hole in the back wall to gain access.

Once inside, the suspect disconnected a video camera and then moved another camera toward the ceiling to avoid identification. The suspect also stole $200 from the cash register. Police attempted to lift fingerprints from several locations in the business, however, they only found a partial print on the front of the cash drawer that is likely unusable.

Someone steals unattended car: At 1:31 p.m. on Nov. 1 in the 2300 block of SW 334th Place, an apartment resident left her car running with the keys in the ignition as it was parked in front of the apartment complex office. The resident went inside her apartment for a moment but returned to find her car missing. Police have no known suspects at this time.

Suspect douses men with gas: At 5:24 a.m. on Oct. 31 in the 1600 block of SW 312th St., a man was assaulted as he was filling up his vehicle at a gas station. He was doused with gasoline on his clothing, face and mouth and believed he was going to be lit on fire. A witness saw the assault and as he approached the men, he too, was doused with gasoline. The suspect was arrested and booked into SCORE jail.

Convict who wants to go back to jail assaults officer: At 2:27 p.m. on Oct. 31 in the 2200 block of S. Commons, a police officer was bit by a man as he was being detained. The policeman, who was assigned as a mall officer and was in full police uniform, responded to Target to assist in removing a shoplifting suspect who refused to leave.

The shoplifter informed the police officer that he was just released from jail and that he wanted to go back to jail. The officer noticed medication bottles in the suspect’s pocket. When the officer asked the suspect if the bottles belonged to him, the man became aggressive and threatened to assault the officer.

The officer told the suspect he was under arrest, grabbed the man’s right hand, who pulled it back and resisted arrest. The officer and store security took the suspect to the ground and during the struggle, the man bit the police officer’s ring finger. The officer yelled at the suspect to let go of his finger but he continued to bite it. The officer placed his forearm against the man’s head and he eventually stopped biting him. Police arrested the man and he faces assault charges.

Patient bites security guard: At 3:54 p.m. on Oct. 31 at 34515 Ninth Ave. S., police were called by St. Francis Hospital staff after a patient spit on a nurse and bit a security guard. The female patient was at the hospital for a voluntary mental evaluation but became disruptive. The assaults occurred after the security guard attempted to restrain her.

Drunk woman said niece assaulted her: At 8:41 p.m. on Oct. 31 in the 100 block of S. 331st Place, police found a woman lying on the ground, intoxicated. She was treated by South King Fire and Rescue for minor injuries.

She said the injuries came from her niece who allegedly assaulted her. She was too intoxicated to provide a written statement but gave police her business card and said she could do it the next day.

Someone steals oxycodone from retirement facility: At 8:12 p.m. on Oct. 31 in the 31000 block of 14th Ave. S., Brookdale Foundation House was robbed of 30 oxycodone tablets from their secured medication cart.

All other medications were accounted for and a statement of each staff member was taken. Police determined that at 6 a.m. on Oct. 24, the count was correct but at 8:30 a.m. when a different staff member checked, the tablets were missing.

Inappropriate touching: At 3:11 a.m. on Oct. 30 in the 1000 block of S. 308th St., a woman said she saw a male put his hand under her roommate’s blanket, however, both the roommate and the suspect denied the allegations of inappropriate touching.

Boy said dad’s friend punched him: At 5:29 p.m. on Oct. 30 in an unknown block of 22nd Ave. S., a 9-year-old boy said his friend’s father punched him in the stomach and threatened to shoot him while he was walking home from school. The boy had no injuries other than pain.

Teen caught with marijuana: At 10:56 p.m. on Oct. 30 in the 2400 block of S. 300th St., a 17-year-old boy was cited for possessing marijuana after police were called to the scene of a suspicious vehicle near Wildwood Elementary. The teen was released from the scene but the case was forwarded to the King County Juvenile Prosecutor for review.

Woman claims men assaulted her: At 9:50 p.m. on Oct. 29 at 28810 block of Military Road S., officers responded to the Safeway parking lot to assist King County Fire Department. A female was treated at the scene for a head injury but was being uncooperative with paramedics. She smelled heavily of intoxicants and said she was assaulted by three males.

She initially refused to go to the hospital but eventually changed her mind and was transported to St. Francis Hospital. She could not provide a description of her assailants.

Arsonist sets homeless camp on fire, leaves suspicious note: At 9:21 a.m. on Oct. 28 in the 1501 of S. 336th St., an unknown suspect ignited a fire to a heavy wooded area known to be frequented by homeless people. Due to a suspicious note left near the fire scene, a fire investigator and police detective arrived and took over the investigation. The police report did not indicate what the suspicious note stated.

Teen inappropriately touches girlfriend: At 12:32 p.m. on Oct. 28 in the 2800 block of Pacific Highway S., a 15-year-old girl reported that her 16-year-old boyfriend inappropriately touched her.

The girl said she resisted the sexual advances by her boyfriend and said “nuh uh” but it continued. She finally told him to stop and he attempted to touch her again before becoming frustrated and walking away.

Girl placed in protective custody: At 3:07 p.m. on Oct. 28 in the 34000 block of 28th Ave. SW, a girl reported being assaulted by her mother. This was reported to a Valley Cities care counselor who notified Child Protective Services, who notified Saghalie Middle School staff, who notified the police. Child Protective Services took custody of the girl.
