Last chance to sound off on Federal Way candidates | Editor’s Note

King County Elections mailed ballots this week to nearly 1.2 million registered voters for the Nov. 4 general election.
Federal Way’s 30th Legislative District has three open seats on the ballot and six candidates, including state Senate candidates Mark Miloscia and Shari Song, and House of Representative candidates Greg Baruso, incumbent Linda Kochmar, Jack Dovey and incumbent Roger Freeman.
Don’t forget to also vote for one of the two candidates to represent our 9th Congressional District — U.S. Rep. Adam Smith or newcomer Doug Basler.
King County Elections has forecast a turnout of 62 percent for this election.
If you’ve been following along so far, you know who the candidates are and that two of the legislative races have heated up. If you want to learn more about the candidates, please check out the Mirror’s special political section this week on pages 16-23 in this issue.
You will also notice in this issue that we’ve dedicated a lot of space for election letters. Our goal is to try and publish as many election letters as possible before the general election.
However, our last issue we will publish letters is next week, Oct. 24. Most publications, including the Mirror, stop publishing election letters about two weeks prior to the election to avoid any last-minute potshots at the candidates.
This means residents and candidates will need to submit letters to the editor by 5 p.m. this Wednesday, Oct. 22. Any letters received after that date, and any letters that we are unable to fit in next week’s print edition, will be published online.
However, we will be dedicating another large section to election letters next week as well, if necessary.
I encourage residents to sound off on whatever election issues that are important to you by submitting a letter to editor@federalwaymirror.com.
In addition, the public is invited to attend the Mirror’s candidates’ forum at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 22 at the Twin Lakes Golf and Country Club. We hope to see you there.
