A 4-year-old girl is in stable condition after she was airlifted to Harborview Medical Center for falling out of a two-story window on Sunday.

The girl and her 6-year-old brother were playing in her brother’s bedroom with the bed pushed up to the open window at 5 p.m. in their home located in the 32100 block of 33rd Ave. SW.

Her brother told police his sister was playing too close to the window so he asked her to get down, according to the Federal Way police report. But he became angry when she didn’t get down and he “might have pushed her at/towards the window,” causing her to fall out, the report continues.

The girl’s mother was talking on the phone in the kitchen at the time but could hear her children playing. After she got off the phone, she went to check on them but couldn’t find them in the backyard. She walked upstairs and then turned back around to go out the front door when her son burst out of his bedroom and told her what happened.

The mother immediately went to the front of the house and saw her daughter laying on her side, unconscious in the driveway.

The police report states she picked up her daughter and ran to neighbor’s homes, screaming for help.

When police arrived, the responding officer saw the girl’s mother with two other women. The mother was holding her daughter with her head resting on her shoulder. The officer said the girl was unconscious and bleeding from her head but was breathing.

After stabilizing the girl’s neck, the officer opened her eyelids but only saw a “blank stare.” Additionally, there was a large contusion and soft spot on the back of her skull. The officer kept pressure on her wound until medics arrived.

“[The mother] said there’s no way [her daughter] would have jumped out of the window on her own doing as she is scared of heights,” the report continues, noting that she believes her son may have pushed her out of the window.

Her son has been diagnosed with ADHD and sometimes acts out but otherwise has a typical relationship with his sister, according to the report.

The girl was found to have a fractured skull and a ruptured lung.
