Say no to 6-story apartments in Federal Way | Letters

I am strongly opposed to the proposed six-story apartment buildings at the old school bus lot on S. 320th Street in Federal Way, across from Safeway. The development would be for 308 multifamily residential units.

This proposed development is way out of scale for its location. Gigantic six-story apartment complexes will tower over our neighborhood of one-story homes. The proposal is completely out of scale, and has no precedent in the city. Other nearby apartments are two-to-three-level complexes. Why the change? Why the move to ugly “monopoly” type structures? Where’s the city planning?

As I understand it, the comprehensive plan and the city itself was created to stop huge apartment complexes in Federal Way and to allow neighborhoods to retain their character.

Instead of the current plan, the owners of the property should put up three-story level apartments that will be compatible with the hotel next door (three stories) and the new library.

Let’s keep new development people-friendly and save our neighborhood from this ugly eyesore of a building.
