TJ students are rewarded for painting sheriff substation

Thomas Jefferson High School sophomores Kyleigh Carbon and Jacob Swanson were honored this week for their efforts to serve South King County communities.

Kyleigh and Jacob recently volunteered to paint the Lake Dolloff substation of the King County Sheriff’s Office after learning the substation was in a state of disrepair. Along with other students, the pair rolled up their sleeves and got to work, painting the station and improving the appearance of the office.

Both students also raise money for Guide Dogs for the Blind through the Auburn club Training Paws. When students receive a potential guide puppy, they raise and train the pup up to 16-18 months of age.

“Kyleigh and Jacob are setting a great example for our local youth and represent their community well,” said King County Councilmember Pete von Reichbauer in a news release. “Being involved in civic organizations at an early age builds a solid foundation for their future.”

In recognition for their community service, both were presented tickets to Wild Waves Theme Park by Todd Suchan, general manager, to enjoy some fun in the sun before the school year returns.
