Medgar Wells is the best candidate for school board | Letters

There are three candidates for Federal Way School Board Position 4: Carol Gregory, Medgar Wells and Kenneth Lance Barton.

Although Ms. Gregory has some impressive credentials, Medgar Wells is the candidate that stands out in this race.

I emailed each candidate two questions and he was the only candidate to respond. He believes that communication between the board and the community should be a two-way street, not a one-way street (as it currently is), a view shared by Carol Gregory.

Second, he believes (like me) that all students should receive a quality education, which includes rehiring librarians and para-educators who work in all-day kindergarten classrooms.

He pointed out (correctly) that this is key to improving our low high school graduation rates, which sorely need to be addressed. His other priorities include improving maintenance in our school buildings, making the district a leader in early learning, and the use of technology in our classrooms, all important objectives that I agree with.

Of the three candidates, I believe he is the leader in working with diverse communities and working in the school environment, both as a teacher and school administrator. He truly believes that our school children are our future and deserve the opportunity to reach their full potential.

To ensure that happens, I urge you to join me in voting for Medgar Wells for Federal Way School Board Position 4.
