FOOTBALL: Federal Way sophomore Chico McClatcher picks up offer from Huskies

Despite being only a sophomore, Federal Way scat back Chico McClatcher already has college football programs knocking down his door.

Last week, the 5-foot-7, 165-pounder picked up his second full-ride scholarship offer. This one came from the hometown University of Washington Husky football program, according to scout.com.

“I was very excited, very excited,” McClatcher told the recruiting website. “It shows they are really interested in me. I am just going to keep working hard in school and grades, that’s all I got to worry about.”

McClatcher also has a scholarship offer from Portland State and is getting a ton of interest from schools like UCLA, Washington State and Oregon State, he said.

As of this moment, it looks like the Huskies are his favorite, but it is way too early to speculate on where he will be playing football in three years.

“I talked to coach Sark (Steve Sarkisian) and it just went from there,” McClatcher told scout.com. “I want to wait, but Washington is close to home and I want to stay close to my family and friends.”

The shifty all-around back leads the Eagles with 13 touchdowns on the season, including nine scores of 30-yards or more. He has also returned three punts for touchdowns for 7-0 and second-ranked Federal Way.

Washington cannot make a written offer of a scholarship until Sept. 1 of McClatcher’s senior year of high school and college coaches cannot comment on players until they sign their letters of intent.

Last season as a ninth-grader, McClatcher finished with 350 yards rushing and three touchdowns.

If he were to give a non-binding, verbal commitment, McClatcher wouldn’t be the youngest player this year to pledge to play at the University of Washington.

In July, 14-year-old San Diego eighth-grader, Tate Martell, said he would be signing with the Huskies to play quarterback beginning in the fall of 2017.

McClatcher isn’t the only Federal Way player to receive scholarship offers. Linebacker Albert Havili has offers from Montana State and Eastern Washington, wide receiver Mike Tate has offers from Idaho, Wyoming, Montana and Portland State and defensive back D’Londo Tucker has received offers from Eastern Washington, Portland State and Idaho.
