Schools should teach children about water safety | Letters

Regarding the tragic drownings in local lakes: Why don’t we educate our children about water safety, personal flotation devices and teach them all how to swim?
Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) requires all of its students to pass a swim test to be eligible to graduate from their university. Cullen Jones, an African American Olympic swimmer, is teaching inner city youth to be drown-proofed.
Maybe Washington state’s K-12 public schools should adopt these same policies and goals.
