Don’t even think about drinking and driving | Letters

The holiday season is well under way. The weather is cold and damp, the shoppers out in force, and parties are aplenty. Alcohol plays a big part as revelers abide.

A word to all the happy people of Federal Way and beyond: don’t even think about drinking and driving. Pretty simple. It’s stupid and it’s illegal. Sure, the same message goes out every year and for some, goes in one ear and out the other. But until it stops (as if it ever will), it’s a message that bears repeating.

This year I’m yelling it a little louder than normal. It’s been about a year since my friend and co-worker Emmanuel Franco was hit by a drunk driver and died at the corner of 320th Street and Pacific Highway, the center of “downtown” Federal Way. As with all cases of this type, it affects too many people to count.

Bottom line: if you’re gonna drink, stay off of the freakin’ road.
