Shame on you for shoplifter story | Letters

Shame on you for the front page article on the lowly thief (“Criminal past aside, deceased shoplifter was a friend,” Aug. 3). A man who found it easier to steal than get a job. A man who found it easier to take a pill or a drink than face reality.
Shame on the mother that would allow this man anywhere near her child.
How did the “system” fail this young man?
Was he not given a free education? The Multi-Service Center offers GED courses. If he needed food, did he go to one of the many churches that offer free suppers or food banks? If he needed a job, did he ask for assistance from the MSC or any of the many job placement or work training programs in King and Pierce counties? If he wanted help with his dependencies, did he go to AA meetings?
The ultimate responsibility for what you do with your life as an adult is you.
