Decatur High School graduate Jarrett Mentink is becoming quite an accomplished author. The former Todd Beamer boys basketball coach recently completed his fifth children’s book called “Mighty Kasey.”

The book details the life of current Seattle Sounders FC goalkeeper and Olympia native Kasey Keller.

Keller, along with Mentink and his wife, sportscaster Angie Mentink, will be signing copies of “Mighty Kasey” at 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 11, at Skyhawks Park, 425 Marvin Road SE in Lacey.

The book costs $13, with proceeds going to the Boys and Girls Clubs. Mentink and his Kids In the Clouds publishing company have also released books with former Seattle Mariners stars Ken Griffey Jr. and Bret Boone, along with former Seattle Seahawks running back Shaun Alexander. His first book was called “Alley the Cat.”

“The Kid Returns” was released two years ago when Griffey came back to Seattle after playing for the Cincinnati Reds. The book highlights the early years of Griffey’s career, including playing outfield with his father and the magical 1995 season. “Alexander the Great” was an inspirational story about the former NFL Most Valuable Player, and “Ka-Boone” talks about what it was like for Boone to be from a third generation Major League Baseball family.

Mentink’s venture as a children’s book author actually started inside a small apartment in Pullman, where he was taking graduate classes and writing his dissertation.
