Members of the Federal Way Stingrays broke eight team records during their first meet of the season Saturday morning.

The Splash Summer Swim League kicked off the first meet of the season at the Auburn School District Pool on July 17.

The Federal Way Stingrays, who represent the City of Federal Way, raced hard.

“Eight team records were broken,” said coach Briley Boggs. “And for a first meet, that’s pretty incredible.”

The Stingrays are now in their third season with other local teams in the Splash League, which was created as an introduction to the world of racing.

Most of the kids are fresh from swim lessons and have been working hard to learn the basics like flip turns, diving from the blocks, stroke technique, how to finish and how not to be disqualified.

“We race against the clock and if they are working hard with good effort and a good attitude, the kids will see the results,” Boggs said. “This is a great way to give kids a chance to see if they are ready for the commitment of the year-round club environment.”

The next meet will be at the Federal Way Community Center against the Auburn YMCA Aquaseals and the Auburn Sharks.
