Sour grapes on parade | Federal Way letters

Are you ready for “sour grapes on parade?”
Yes, we’re talking about the likelihood that mayoral wannabes will soon be coming out of the woodwork. We’d have to be naive to doubt that we’ll be seeing some very familiar names. These are names we’re used to seeing on the “Vote No” list. If Prop. 1 passes, they hope they can snatch a victory out of defeat. Like hyenas smelling blood, they’re probably already salivating at this opportunity.
You’ll soon be hearing the rationalizations like, “Well, if there must be an elected mayor, I’m the right person for the job.” Yes, folks, they’ll be hoping you haven’t been paying attention. They’ll be hoping you forget that ACT paved the way for positive change. Well, don’t let them insult your intelligence.
First and foremost, be on the lookout for the names of current Federal Way City Council members who told the voters to vote “no” to an elected mayor. If any one of them should become mayor, that will guarantee that nothing changes in Federal Way.
I thought it was corny at first, but the sign says it well: “A new day for Federal Way.” That’s what we need. Anything less won’t do.
If Prop. 1 does pass, the people’s choice should be simple. Only one of the candidates fought to bring this election to the people. Only one candidate has been speaking on behalf of the people since before he first took a seat on the city council. Only one candidate has been true to you, the voters. That candidate is Jim Ferrell.
