Public academy’s anniversary
Federal Way Public Academy is inviting the public to celebrate its 10-year anniversary with an open house from 1 to 4 p.m. Dec. 13 at the school, 34620 9th Ave S. The event will feature founding principal Dr. Ray Griffin. For more information, call (253) 945-3270.
Highline board of trustees
Gov. Chris Gregoire has announced the appointment of two Federal Way residents to the Highline Community College Board of Trustees.
Barbara Reid and Dan Altmayer have been selected to replace Karen Vander Ark, who resigned, and Rita Creighton, who died last March.
Altmayer was previously involved in campaigning to open Highline’s new Marine Science and Technology Center, which is located at Redondo Beach.
Altmayer served for 24 years in the military and has worked as a financial advisor for Edward Jones Investments. He currently serves as chair of the Federal Way Chamber of Commerce board of directors and on the advisory council of Communities in Schools of Federal Way.
Reid was named Citizen of the Year in 2003 by the Federal Way Chamber of Commerce. She has been involved in the Federal Way Parks and Recreation Commission, the Federal Way Symphony and the Federal Way’s Festival Days.
Jingle Bell Brunch
Registration is going on now for Federal Way’s Jingle Bell Brunch. The event runs 9 to 11 a.m. Dec. 6 at the Federal Way Community Center, 876 S. 333rd St., and will feature brunch, photos with Santa, music and holiday crafts. Tickets are $6 for ages 2-11 and $8 each for age 12 and up. Seating is limited and registration is required. Call (253) 835-6900 and use the ID code 20346.
