The following is a sample from the Federal Way police log:

Welfare check leads to sleeping juveniles: At 2:30 a.m., Feb. 28, police responded to the 36000 block of Enchanted Parkway South for a welfare check at Enchanted Parks, where two males were sleeping in a vehicle near a security gate. Police woke the two males, later identified as juveniles, who stated they were too tired to keep driving. The juveniles appeared to be intoxicated or high and later admitted to having smoked marijuana earlier. Upon identifying the juveniles, one of the subjects was discovered to be a runaway from Bonney Lake. He was detained while his mother was notified. The boy’s mother picked him up, and the second male was picked up by a friend from Enchanted Parks.

Juvenile found with marijuana: At 8:40 a.m., Feb. 28, an officer was dispatched to Lakota Middle School regarding recovered marijuana. Upon arrival, the officer spoke to the reporting party, who found marijuana inside a student’s backpack. The student was placed into custody and taken to the Federal Way Police Station. The student was later released to his mother.

Suspect exposes himself at library: At 11:21, Feb. 28, in the 34000 block of First Way South, someone reported the name of an individual who is believed to have exposed himself to multiple people at various King County Library facilities. The reporting party said the subject was a known patron of the facilities, and one of the employees provided his name to give to police. The suspect’s whereabouts were unknown.

Hide and seek can be dangerous: At 4:08 p.m., Feb. 28, an officer responded to assist fire personnel in the 200 block of Southwest 319th Lane. Two boys were playing hide and seek, and the younger boy slipped and struck his head on the corner of a wall, resulting in an inch-and-a-half laceration to his forehead. The child was being treated when the officer arrived. Shortly after, the parents left to take the child to a hospital to receive stitches.

Woman hits ex-boyfriend: At 12:53 a.m., Feb. 27, in the 32000 block of First Avenue South, an officer responded to a domestic violence report. The reporting party stated his ex-girlfriend approached him in the parking lot of the bar. After he attempted to walk away, she punched him in the face one time, causing a small cut on his upper lip. The woman fled on foot and was not located.

Man arrested after assaulting girlfriend: At 2:34 a.m. on Feb. 27 in the 900 block of Southwest Campus Drive, police responded to a report of an assault where a man struck his girlfriend in the face and head approximately 30 times and pulled out her hair and broke her cell phone. The suspect was arrested and booked into SCORE Jail.

Suspect really wanted golf items: At 7:45 a.m. on Feb. 27 in the 1000 block of South 336th Street, someone reported a golf trailer holding tools, trophies and other golf tournament items was broken into over the weekend. Unknown suspects used a pry bar or similar tool to break off the locks and access the trailer, which was parked in a dimly lit portion of the parking lot. The trailer was ransacked, but police were unable to obtain finger prints, and no video surveillance was available. The reporting party said the area received a lot of activity from homeless people from camps and transients passing through the parking lot.

UPS driver reports theft: At 1:55 p.m., Feb. 27, in the 1900 block of South Commons, a UPS delivery driver reported packages inside his vehicle had been opened. No damage to the door or lock was evident. The driver stated he last removed packages from the vehicle at 12:50 p.m. and was positive he locked the door. He returned a little less than an hour later and saw the packages had been opened. No witnesses or suspects were identified.

Police arrest suspect after rampage: At 5:53 p.m., Feb. 27, in the 1700 block of South 324th Place, police were dispatched after a male was reported to be destroying property at that location and then running toward The Commons mall. The male then threw items around in Macy’s and then ran across 320th Street and into Gateway Center, where he threw items at cars. He then ran through Gateway Center and was contacted by police on the street. He was booked into SCORE Jail.

Subject arrested on weapons, paraphernalia offenses: At 10:43 p.m., Feb. 27, an officer responded to Grocery Outlet for a possible DUI suspect parked in the lot. The officer found the person asleep behind the wheel of a car. Upon contact, the person was found to have metal knuckles and a glass crack pipe. The person was arrested and taken to jail. The subject was refused by the jail, and a new citation was issued and the person was released to Highline Hospital for treatment.

Help not wanted: At 2:38 a.m., Feb. 26, an officer responded to the 33000 block of Pacific Highway South and contacted a man who was bleeding from the head. The man said he was hit, and the officer told him emergency medical services were on the way. When the officer asked him about the incident, the man, who was intoxicated, became uncooperative. The man started to get up and get in a fighting stance, and the officer placed him into handcuffs so EMS could evaluate him. He was involuntarily committed to St. Francis emergency room.

Husband drunk, not missing: At 7:58 a.m., Feb. 26, in the 31000 block of Third Place Southwest, a woman reported her husband did not return home the previous night. She said he had only done that one other time three years ago. The man was entered into the system as missing. Two hours later, the woman called back and reported she spoke with her husband, and he was OK. The husband apparently went drinking at a bar in Seattle and was too intoxicated to drive, and he slept in his vehicle.

Police can’t find assault suspect: At 8:46 a.m., Feb. 25, in the 28000 block of 30th Avenue South, someone reported seeing a male punch a female in the face and then walk westbound on South 288th Street toward 25th Place South. Officers were on another call in the area but did not see anyone matching the description of either person in the area. An area check was conducted in the opposite direction to Thomas Jefferson High School, but officers did not see anyone. A victim has yet to come forward.

Burglar steals loot from LA Fitness: At 10:24 a.m., Feb. 25, in the 27000 block of Pacific Highway South, LA Fitness employees arrived for work and discovered the front door to be locked but loose. Employees checked the building and discovered several equipment items and the master keys missing, along with several items and cash taken from the smoothie bar. No witnesses or suspects were identified.

Husband arrested after assault: At 11:58 a.m., Feb. 25, in the 32000 block of 17th Avenue South, police responded to a residence after a report of an assault. The victim’s husband grabbed the victim by the throat and forced her face into the ground. The woman suffered a bloody nose and some scratches around the neck. She was treated by firefighters at the scene. The husband was arrested and booked into SCORE Jail.

Unwanted visitors staying in shed: At 2:15 p.m., Feb. 25, in the 100 block of Southwest 305th Street, a woman reported hearing somone run out of her back yard and later discovered blankets and clothes in an unsecured shed. The woman said she was moving into the home that she just purchased. She said the house had been vacant for some time, and the items in the shed were not there a few days earlier. A police officer observed and photographed signs of transient activity in the shed, as well as an electrical cord running from the home to the structure. The woman was advised to call 911 if the person returns.

Officer attacked by pit bulls: At 5:44 p.m., Feb. 25, in the 33000 block of 47th Avenue Southwest, an officer responded to the location after loose pit bulls were reported exhibiting aggression in the street. When the officer arrived, the dogs were in a residence. The dogs charged the officer when someone opened the door. The officer struck the dogs in the face to fend them off, and the woman was told repeatedly to contain the animals. One of the dogs retreated after being struck once, and the woman picked up the smaller dog and carried it into the house. The officer issued a civil infraction to the woman and issued her a verbal warning to license both animals.

Person shoplifts to pay off drug dealer: At 8:22 p.m., Feb. 25, a man entered the Fred Meyer at 21st Avenue and broke into a locked display case. The man stole a jump pack, as well as a personal lock box, commonly used to hide drugs, and stuffed the items into his pants. He was contacted as he attemped to flee out of an exit. The man was advised of his rights, and then he admitted to the theft so he could pay his heroin dealer. He was cited and released.

Unwanted visitor becomes violent: At 1:34 p.m., Feb. 24, in the 36000 block of Ninth Court Southwest, an officer responded to a report of malicious mischief. The homeowner reported her boyfriend’s cousin had been staying at the residence, and he was asked to leave. The man was removed from the house and locked outside. The man reported his wallet was still inside and started to bang on the front door and back window. He broke the rear window with his hand and kicked the front door with his foot until it separated from the frame. The homeowner said she just wanted the man to not come back. Police were unable to locate the man, and the woman was unwilling to prosecute.
