Male assaulted by suspect wearing clown mask

The following is a sample from the Federal Way police log:

Argument turns breakable: At 4:32 a.m., Jan. 25, in the 27000 block of 22nd Avenue South, a father and son, were involved in an argument over car insurance. Police said the son got angry and damaged the TV, a step ladder, and a piano bench in the living room of their house. The father did not want to press charges, and the son left the house prior to police arrival.

You have to pay for that: At 1:20 p.m., Jan. 25, in the 1900 block of South 314th Street, Wal-Mart employees reported a shoplifter was attempting to steal wrought iron fencing from the property. As employees were escorting the suspect to the office, he ran from the store, but he was detained by police officers without incident. The suspect was booked on an outstanding warrant not related to the theft.

Male assaulted by suspect wearing clown mask: At 10:57 p.m., Jan. 24, an officer was responding to a report of an assault that had taken place in the 1000 block of Southwest 314th Street. The victim told the officer that during volleyball practice he went to the restroom, and as he entered an unknown male pushed him from behind and proceeded to punch him under his right eye. The victim said the suspect was wearing a red, white and blue clown mask. The victim had slight swelling under his right eye, which the officer photographed.

Expensive items returned: At 2:08 p.m., Jan. 24, police were called to the 1000 block of South 324th Place to recover a stolen vehicle. At the scene, an officer found more than $400,000 of stolen medical supplies that had been taken from a car stolen in Tacoma and recovered in Federal Way. The property was returned to the owner.

Can’t trust a stranger: At 2:01 p.m., Jan. 24, in the 34000 block of 16th Avenue South, an officer responded to a theft of groceries from a victim’s cart. The victim reported she was sitting in an electronic shopping cart outside of the Super WalMart waiting for her bus ride and talking to a woman. After 20 minutes of conversation, the woman realized she needed to use the restroom and asked the woman to watch her groceries. When she returned, she saw the woman going through her items and taking an unknown amount of groceries. Loss prevention stated the area where the theft took place is not covered by cameras.

Phony money used at coffee shop: At 12:35 p.m., Jan. 24, a police officer reported to the Starbucks on South 320th to investigate a report of a fraud. The officer spoke to the manager, who handed over a counterfeit $100 bill. The manager said an employee took the fraudulent bill from an unknown customer, and she only discovered the crime while doing the books. The employee said she could not remember who gave her the bill, which was placed into evidence.

Father turns in son: At 10:01 a.m., Jan. 24, in the 100 block of South 293rd Street, someone reported that his son was at the residence, and he had active warrants. The suspect’s mother was on scene and confirmed her son was in a bedroom but refused to come to the door. The mother said she was going to break the door, but officers took over and entered the room. They took the suspect into custody, and he was booked into SCORE Jail without incident.

Apartment shot up: At 5:58 a.m., Jan. 24, officers responded to an apartment in the 28000 block of Pacific Highway South after several people reported hearing gunshots in an apartment. Upon arriving, police discovered several bullet holes inside that apartment. No one inside was harmed, and no other damage was found. No witnesses were located. Police found several spent shell casings, as well as three bullets, in the apartment.

Tall tale draws serious attention: At 3:28 p.m., Jan 23., in the 35000 block of 16th Avenue South, officers and school administrators were notified that a student at an elementary school had told a teacher that his brother was going to shoot up Todd Beamer High School. After all parties were interviewed, officers determined the elementary school student had made up the statement.

Gunshots reported: At 7:15 p.m., Jan. 23, multiple callers reported hearing three to four gunshots in the 1000 block of Southwest Campus Drive on the “English Garden Trail” behind an Arcadia Apartments building. A caller reported seeing two males walking on the trail at the time when the shots were fired and then running away. Some time later, police contacted two people who were walking on the trail, and they reported they hadn’t seen anything or anyone. An officer and a K-9 unit walked the trails and were unable to find evidence of a shooting.

Threatening calls concerns residents: At 9:16 p.m., Jan. 23, in the 30000 block of Pacific Highway South, police spoke with a man who reported a man who collided with their car the previous week was harassing and threatening his wife. The husband reported the man told his wife over the phone that he needed money for the crash and that he knew when she was home and that her children went to school during the day. An officer contacted the suspect, who denied threatening the woman. A warrant check, however, revealed the man was wanted on a $50,000 domestic violence harassment warrant. The suspect was later booked into SCORE Jail.

Bar fight leads to warrant arrest: At 1:43 a.m., Jan. 22, police responded to a fight at the Scoreboard Pub between two males. The investigation yielded no assault occurred, and neither party was injured. One of the males was discovered to have a King County Sheriff’s Office warrant for reckless driving. He was taken into custody and transported to SCORE Jail.

Golf cart taken for joy ride: At 8:53 a.m., Jan. 22, an officer responded to the 1000 block of South 336th Street after a golf cart was reported stolen. Upon arrival, the officer learned the golf cart was recovered. An employee said the keys were left in the cart, and it was taken but recovered on the property in the woods. Video surveillance showed a transient male and female take the cart for a ride. The video quality was not good enough to identify either person.

Man arrested at apartments: At 12:47 p.m., Jan. 22, officers responded to Crestview Apartments for a report of a man passed out on the stairs. Police discovered the man had several outstanding warrants. He was arrested and booked into Score Jail. He was also trespassed from the apartment complex.

Argument leads to arrest: At 4:26 p.m., Jan. 22, police responded to the 2000 block of South Star Lake Road after a report of a verbal argument between a married couple. The wife said the argument turned physical when her husband punched her once on the left side of her head. She did not have visible injuries, and the woman refused medical aid. The husband was placed under arrest without incident and booked into SCORE Jail.

Woman found with meth: An officer stopped a woman for a bicycle violation at 8:53 p.m., Jan. 22, in the 33000 block of Pacific Highway South and was discovered to have a warrant out of Federal Way Municipal Court. While she was searched during the arrest, the woman was found to have .43 grams of a substance suspected to be methamphetamine. She was booked into SCORE Jail without incident.

Stolen vehicle gets away: At 11:40 p.m., Jan. 22, an officer in the 31000 block of 23rd Avenue South reported seeing a vehicle suspected of being stolen out of King County. The vehicle, a gold Dodge Caravan, was driving southbound on 23rd Avenue South. The officer turned around and checked the area but was unable to locate the vehicle. An area check by another officer yielded negative results, as well.

Arrest made with stolen car: At 3:29 a.m., Jan. 21, in the 1000 block of South 328th Street, an officer contacted three subjects outside of a vehicle later determined to be stolen. One female, who was arrested, was seen opening the vehicle and having keys to it in her bag.

Attempted burglary reported: At 9:37 a.m., Jan. 21, in the 100 block of Southwest Campus Drive, an employee at a business reported finding a slim jim-type device wedged in the front door near the deadbolt. Access was not made into the building, and there was no damage. No suspects or witnesses were reported. The device was collected and placed in evidence for destruction.

2×4’s stolen: At 12:49 p.m., Jan. 21, in the 30000 block of 10th Avenue South, a man reported arriving at his rental property to continue construction on it and discovered that four 16-feet 2-by-4’s were missing from the back yard. The residence is unoccupied, and no witnesses or suspects were reported. The victim said the boards were there overnight, and when he arrived in the morning, the gate was open.

Fraud attempt failed: At 2:15 p.m., Jan. 21, in the 1000 block of South 314th Street, an employee at a business reported a woman tried to write a check on some miscellaneous groceries. When the employee went to verify the check, the woman left the store, leaving behind the check and her identification. Police were unable to contact the person of interest.

Stolen vehicle towed: At 3:21 p.m., Jan. 21, a person reported his vehicle had been taken from his residence in the 1000 block of South 285th Place. When the victim discovered his vehicle was missing, he made inquiries and discovered it had been impounded by a tow company from another unknown location. The victim said nobody had permission to take his vehicle, and he could account for all his keys. The victim recovered his vehicle from the tow company.

Man refuses to pay for cab ride: At 4:15 p.m., Jan. 21, officers responded to the 31000 block of 18th Avenue Southwest after a cab driver reported a man with a young child refused to pay for a ride. The driver said he picked up the man and the child in Tacoma and was initially going to take them to the transit center but then was told to drop them off at Tall Firs Condos. Upon arriving, the man and the child exited the vehicle and walked off through the complex. The driver said he followed them but stopped after the man told him that he would get a gun if the driver kept following them. The driver provided police with a photo of the suspect. Officers checked the area for the suspect, but he was not found.

No such thing as free booze: At 4:43 p.m., Jan. 21, in the 2000 block of Southwest 336th Street, a security employee at a business reported a young male had put two bottles of Jack Daniels in a basket and then fled the store before getting into a white vehicle. The liquor was valued at $80. A photograph of the suspect was obtained from security video and provided to police. The suspect was described as a white male, approximately 5 feet, 10 inches to 6 feet tall, a thin build, long brown hair and approximately 20 years old.

Couple fights over gambling losses: At 12:41 a.m., Jan. 20, in the 30000 block of Third Avenue South, police responded to a verbal dispute between a couple who lives together. The couple argued after one of them went to the casino and spent too much money, which angered the other. Neither reported being injured or assaulted. No injuries were seen, and the two agreed to discuss the disagreement again in the morning.

Suspect arrested after mistaken identity: At 8:16 a.m., Jan. 21, in the 34000 block of Pacific Highway South, an officer contacted a male who matched the description of a warrant suspect. The individual was not the suspect in question, but after running the man’s name, police discovered he had a Federal Way Police Department misdemeanor warrant. While searching the man, police found five .45 caliber bullets and a large knife in a backpack, which were seized and placed into evidence. The man signed a catch-and-release form and was issued a new court date for his warrant before he was released.

Tools stolen from vehicle: At 7:49 a.m., Jan. 20, in the 100 block of Southwest Campus Drive, an officer responded following a report of a theft. The victim stated he left his tools in a locked vehicle overnight. When he returned in the morning, he noticed a smell of WD-40 in the van, and many of his tools, valued at approximately $1,410 were missing. WD-40 appeared to be sprayed in the door locks on the back and right side of the vehicle, which was not otherwise damaged. No serial numbers were provided, but the tools were all labeled “SML.”

Lingerie stolen from vehicle: At 8:03 a.m., Jan. 20, a person reported someone had shattered the back window to a rental van and stole a suitcase full of lingerie while it was parked overnight in a hotel parking lot in the 31000 block of Gateway Center Boulevard. The victim was in Washington for business and had already returned to him home in Florida. The case was reported by phone.
