Federal Way police investigate vehicle explosion

34-year-old man arrested following Tuesday evening’s blast

A 34-year-old Federal Way man was arrested Tuesday evening following a vehicle explosion.

Federal Way police and South King Fire & Rescue responded to a report of an explosion in the 29800 block of Fourth Avenue Southwest at 5:12 p.m. Tuesday.

The police department’s Bomb Disposal Unit, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) and the FBI provided assistance with scene analysis and processing.

The suspect was arrested on suspicion of malicious explosion of a substance in the second degree. No one was injured in the explosion.

As of Wednesday morning, the Federal Way Police Department was continuing its investigation to determine the cause and motive.

The case will be forwarded to the King County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office for possible charges.
